Pink and Green Birthday Wishes

Hope you are all having a good day. Just a quick post today to share my card for this week's MMSC challenge. This card is a bit larger than what I'm normally due; but that was because I knew that I wanted to use my new paper Pretties image that I got in the mail yesterday. As you can see, it is a bit large, and I wanted to be able to see the elements behind the card more clearly. So, I started with a 4 1/4 x 6 1/4 Celery Base and then added a layer of Pink Pirouette. Then I added two squares of Garden Green and two Melon Mambo. The DSP on the Melon Mambo pieces is from Basic Grey. I colored the image with Copics and SU Markers. The bits of flowers and bling are from various stashes that I had in my craft room.

A Skating Christmas

Would you believe me if I told you that I spent all day stamping yesterday and this is the only thing I have to show for it. I started out with a vision and a sketch that looked nothing like what I finally ended up with. I started, it didn't work, I tried to adjust...no luck, so in the trash it went. I started again...twice and both times they ended up in the trash. I don't know what was wrong, I just couldn't get it together. I finally got this one done this morning! I have to say, that I rather like this one. I really wanted to use my Paper Pretties Gliding By stamp; but it is a large stamp and so I kept having a hard time figuring out where to put it and still have room for the background and other elements I wanted to use in the card. I started with a Tempting TQ base and added a layer of Ruby Red. I made the swirl background by brayering my CB swirls folder with Ruby Red ink and then running it through my CB with white paper. This is a very cool technique and I highly recommend trying it. One tip though, cover the embossing folder with a layer of Versamark and then brayer the ink on to it. This will make the ink smoother on the paper. Also, be sure that you place the paper carefully on to the ink and then don't move it around. Otherwise, you're ink will smudge onto the white embossed part of the paper. This happened to me; but I got lucky because I was able to spin it around and cover it up with the image. I stamped the Sophia stamp with Basic Brown ink and then used a variety of Copics and SU markers to color her in. I added the paper piercing around the Ruby Red layer and the green eyelets to finish the card. That's all for me. I hope I have better luck stamping today. A card for my special girl.

Good Morning!

I never know when my Paper Pretties SOTM is coming, so I'm always pleasantly surprised when it arrives in my mailbox. This one came over the weekend and as soon as I saw the colors for today's SCS color challenge, I knew it would be perfect. I decided to also use yesterday's Mojo Monday sketch as well. It all just fit so well together. Although I did use my very very last scrap of Baja Breeze for it! The kiwi piece is actually a scrap of cuttlebug piece I had laying around also. I kept trying to decide whether I needed to keep it, or just toss it. I knew I would find a use for it!
I am going to be giving this card to my daughter Reagan. We've had a few, "she's 8 going on 18!" moments over the past week or so and I just want to let her know how much I love her. She doesn't dance; but I think she'll like it anyways. (I keep waiting for Paper Pretties to make a gymnastic Sophia!!) I tweaked the sketch a bit and put the ribbon behind the image because I didn't want to hide the ballerina slippers.

Paper Pretty Autumn Card

Good Morning Everyone!

With the onslaught of Christmas crafting and card making all over the blogs and in my own house the past few weeks, I decided to take a step back and remember that technically it's still Autumn. I was surfing around the net the other night and found this "Sheetload of Cards" and I really liked this card layout and the unique way it opens. Check out the link if you get a chance. You can create a lot of cards with the instructions or just one, like I did. I also thought that using one of my Paper Pretties stamp would be appropriate as well. This is actually only the second time I've used this one. The hardest part really was finding three patterned papers that worked well together. Actually, I only used two because the one behind the little girl and the one with the ribbon are the same because it is DSP. I thought the other paper just added to the fall theme of the card. I didn't put a sentiment on the outside, because I will put that on the inside. I've not yet decided what I want to do on the inside, however, so I can't show you that part! The card is pretty straightforward, so I don't think there's a lot of explaining necessary.

Mojo Monday with a "Pretty" Girl!

Good Monday Morning Everyone!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. Mine was great! My husband and I attended the USMC Birthday Ball Saturday evening, which was spectacular as always. Yesterday I went with a group of friends to see "The Secret Life of Bees". It was soooo gooood!!! If you haven't seen it, make a point to; but definitely don't go without any tissues. You many even need a whole box because it's a definite tear jerker, and I'm not talking the "get choked up, cry a few tears" kind of crying. I'm talking "blubbering, bawling, sniffing" crying!
Before I left to go to the movie, however I checked the mail and lo and behold my new Paper Pretties Stamp of the Month had arrived. Yea!! I took one look at her and knew I couldn't wait to get use her today. I knew that I wanted to use the traditional red and green Christmas Colors; but I also wanted to incorporate a couple of softer colors as well, so I ended up with Ballet Blue, Garden Green, Pink Pirouette, and Riding Hood Red. This is also my card for this week's Mojo Monday sketch. I had to adjust the sketch just a bit in order to fit Sophia on there; but I think it works nonetheless. I used a retired Christmas Tree wheel in Garden Green for the top of the card. For the textured background behind Sophia I used Pink Pirouette, Garden Green sponged on white card stock and then sprayed with water and then used Ruby Red and Ballet Blue over it.I stamped Sophia in Close to Cocoa and then filled in her in with aqua painters and inks. I paper-pieced her skirt from a piece of Christmas DSP that I had.

Being Inspired by Colors and Changes

It has been a busy day, so I am just now getting to my post for today. As you can see I have changed the template for October. I wanted to something that was very Autumn related. I love Autumn, it's my favorite time of the year and I am always so excited when it finally comes around. I love everything about it from the colors, to the chill in the air, to the food.
My first piece is from yesterday's color challenge on SCS titled "Really Chocolate Breezes" I used my Paper Pretties "Howdy Girlfriend" Sophia for this card. I guess mainly because the colors just make me think of rustic country girl theme. The card is pretty straightforward, as you can see. For the background piece behind the cute little cowgirl, I used the textured background technique. I sponged Bali Breeze, Realy Rust and Creamy Caramel ink and then sprayed the piece with water. I crumpled up the paper and then smoothed it out and pressed Basic Brown ink over the piece. I used my aqua painters and inks to color her in and then I cut her out and attached her to the Creamy Caramel piece.
My second piece is Beate's Be Inspired Piece from yesterday. I loved the colors in this and I wanted to make sure and do something that reflected the colors and the nature feel of the card.For my colors I chose Bordering Blue, Creamy Caramel, Close to Cocoa and a piece of rose colored paper that I found in my scraps. For my stamps I used, Bitty Backgrounds as well as an old Sale-A-Bration set from SU. I also used the stipple brush technique to do the background behind the branch. Well, at least, I sort of did...I didn't have any stipple brushes, so I used regular stiff-haired brushes and improvised. Not exactly the same; but it'll do for now.

Mojo Monday #53

Good Monday Morning Everyone!
Well the weekend has come and gone and now it's back to business as usual. It's Monday which means it's Mojo Monday time. I liked this week's sketch a lot and decided to take the opportunity to use my brand new Paper Pretties Stamp. This stamp is called "Falling for You" and it is September's Stamp of the Month. I just thought she was great for the fall colors that I chose for the card. I used Always Artichoke, Cameo Coral, Apricot Appeal and Pumpkin Pie. The background on the Cameo Coral is my new Stitched Background stamp from Stampin Up. I stamped the main image on water color paper and then used my aqua painters and pencils to color her.

A Howdy Tuesday!

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I'm off to pick up Reagan from school and then to finish doing a few things before gymnastics this afternoon. Wanted to post this before the rest of the day got away from me. This stamp is from the Paper Pretties Stamp of the Month Club This was August stamp. Isn't she cute?! This is the first card I've made with her; but it definitely won't be the last. The possibilities for her are endless. I decided to take a pretty traditional approach with her for this first time around and just stuck with the basic earthy colors for her outfit. I used Really Rust, and Close to Cocoa. I did want to add a bit of a splash of bright color, so I used Tempting Turquoise as my base.
